Parliamentary secretary irrigation, flood control and geology & mining Y. Patton, who undertook an inspection of land belonging to irrigation and flood control Saturday, found that encroachers included those from the department.
Those accompanying Patton for the inspections at Medziphema, 4th mile, LRC colony, PWD colony and ADC court included departmental officers. After the inspection Patton announced that immediate action would be initiated against encroachers.
He also urged the district administration to carry out eviction drive immediately and cancel allotments.
He also disclosed the boundary wall would be raised for demarcation.
In Medziphema, the administration in 2010, had cancelled land allotment and evicted 16 individuals out of the 17 encroachers, Patton said.
Patton had already informed administration in Medziphema to evict the remaining encroacher whose allotment order has been cancelled.
‘Sugarcane godwon’ as EE office Dmu division
During a visit to the office of the EE (Irrigation and Flood Control) Dimapur division at the Agri-Expo site, Patton found out that the executive engineer office was functioning from a “sugarcane godwon” on a temporary basis after its main office Dimapur was demolished during the Agri-Expo in 2010.
The office was dismantled to widen the approach road and not reconstructed. He said the department has already moved for budgetary provision for construction of new E.E. irrigation and flood control office Dimapur division at an alternative site. However, according to executive engineer, Er. Ghukhui Zhimomi, disclosed that the plot allotted by the Agri department was small and inconvenient for office complex.
He also pointed out absence of any approach road besides high tension over head wires over the plot that made it unsafe. Superintendent engineer Eyono-o also said that the site allotted to them was not suitable for office complex.
