August 31, 2012 | by admin

At least twenty houses were affected due to massive rainfall and subsequent landslide at Dhopi Nahla area of Mission compound ward, Kiphire town.

The landslide at the residential area was reportedly worsened when one person blocked the drainage with a boulder near National Highway 202 at Kohima road Kiphire and diverted the drainage water to the area leading to heavy landslide. Footpaths were also cut off due to the landslide and the affected residents were seen clearing the passages.

In connection with the blocking of the drainage water, an FIR was lodged and one person was held for placing the boulder in the drainage and released later.  Kiphire SDO (C) Athrila Sangtam has assured help to the affected residents.

Earlier in the morning, an angry mob gathered at Kohima road Kiphire and protested against the authorities for not taking any action. The residents have appealed for immediate help. (Correspondent)
