Focus on domestic tourists: Himato

State tourism commissioner and secretary Himato Zhimomi Thursday emphasized on the need of giving importance to domestic tourists stating that last year only 2000 foreign tourists visited Nagaland against the footprints of about 25000 domestic visitors.

Zhimomi who was the chief guest at a function organized by Nagaland Hotels & Restaurant Association (NHRA) to observe ‘World Tourism Day’ under the theme “prospect and promotion of tourism in Nagaland” at Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur also added that that five years down the line, the state was expected to host over 100 hundred thousand domestic tourists.

He urged the students present on the occasion to preserve the state’s rich culture and bio-diversity and urged them to make Nagaland become a “clean state”.

Zhimomi also announced that state government would be launching an institute of hotel management in Dimapur by next year.

In an effort to instill students the importance of eco-tourism, Chinese Institute of Language and Arts and China Study Centre with Orian Edutech Pvt. Ltd Thursday organized a programme on the occasion of “World Tourism Day” at IMC hall, Dimapur, with DC Dimapur, N. Hushili Sema as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Hushili pointed out that the state faced the problems of insurgency for years however people from both within the country and abroad were thronging in the state as tourists. She said this was a positive sign.

Stating that tourism is one of the biggest and most flourishing industries, Hushili said that if places like Sikkim and Darjeeling have been tagged as popular tourist destinations, Nagaland could also make it to the list if everyone contributed.

Speaking as guest of honour, Dr. John Murry, patron of Chinese institute, Dimapur, said that Nagas were the “best in hospitality” which God had gifted them in a special way but same was needed to be polished. (More report on p-3)
