Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Social Work (MGCSW), IGNOU, Chuchuyimlang in collaboration with 31st Assam Rifles, Mokokchung conducted disaster management demonstration programme at, Chuchu Town Hall on September 29.
Captain Sunil Kumar, who was the resource person presented on search and rescue of victims in the aftermath of a disaster focusing on the basic first aid skills.
He highlighted about the types of disaster, key disaster elements, preparing for disaster, protective actions and the importance of quick action from a medical aspect.
He also elaborated on various ways to approach and identify victims in the first phase of disaster and conduct triage under stimulated disaster conditions.
Demonstration on how to conduct triage, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and demonstration of first aid in the case of a fire emergency was also conducted.
Participants of the programme included students from MGCSW-IGNOU, NEILIT, Friendship High School, Govt. High School and Students’ Union representatives from Chuchuyimlang, Sungratsu, Yisemyong and Mongsenyimti where MSW students of MGCSW are placed for concurrent field work.
