United Naga Village, Intanki (NUVI) council Monday clarified that the press statement issued on September 11 by Head GB Khehoi, chairman Sazo Angami and secretary C. Pili Pochury were “not official” as their names were not in the list of tribal representatives which submitted the representation to the state government through the forest minister on January 19, 2009.
In a statement signed by 16 members– T. Kivito Nekha, Hotokhu Sumi, Nyang Pong, Shitsulim, Ayen, Yemtsai, Athiba Sangtam, Neizo Angami, P. Shing, Neisetoulie Pfukha, L. Honito Yeptho, Bendang Ao, N. Yanthan, Rhonchamo, Pentsu and Mathoveyi Chakhesang, NUVI council said henceforth both the state government and Zeme Council (ZC), North East India (NEI) should not consider statements issued by individuals whose names and signature were not included in the list of the “agreement papers” while forming Naga United Village.
The statement also said that the present official NUVI council had recently submitted a memorandum to the state chief secretary that it would agree to extend cooperation to the state government if it fulfilled the assurance given by chief minister on June 19, 2009 at the zonal council hall Kohima.
NUVI council also made it clear that its main concern was the declaration by forest department on its status report 2009 that Beisumpuikam was the first “encroached village” within Intangki National Park. It added that following this, few other villages including Inavi/Naga United Village were also established.
While seeking alternative arrangement for “landless settlers” of NUVI, it also acknowledged that Inavi Village exists “no more” after headmen of Inavi and 14 tribes jointly decided to form Naga United Village only. The 14 tribes were represented by 24 leaders.
The council has now appealed the state government to grant alternative means either financial or “plot of land” to the settlers of the official NUVI.
