3 held for extortion; arms, vehicles recovered

Dimapur police have arrested three persons while they were extorting Rs.5000 each as yearly tax in the name of GPRN/NSCN from two trucks at Diphupar B village gate Tuesday morning.

In a press release, Dimapur police PRO said the three arrested have been identified as one Toloho Yeptho (35), under secretary in GPRN/NSCN, son of Visheto of Litami village, Zunheboto; Akumba Awomi, son of Khukiye of Kholeboto village, Zunheboto and Mughavi Chishi (30), son of Azheto of Litami village, Zunheboto.

Police said one motorcycle (NL 07J 5567, eng no JKMBUK48782, ch no MD2DSJZZZUWK04932) and one scooter (NL 06/6934, eng no CRCBJJ06386, ch no CREBJJ10307) were seized from their possession. A case was registered with Diphupar police station, police said.

Stolen vehicles recovered
Dimapur police investigation the cases of vehicle lifting recovered four stolen vehicles during the month of September 2012 from various locations including Manipur and Assam.

In a release, PRO said the two Mahindra Boleros were recovered from Manipur and Assam another Mahindra Bolero and auto rickshaw (NL 01F 1368) were recovered from Dimapur. The vehicles were handed over to the rightful owners on production of documents, police said.

Dimapur police and 12 NAP (IR) personnel September 30 arrested one person for possessing illegal arms and ammunitions at Dhobinalla, Dimapur.

According to PRO, the accused, identified as one Manmah Konyak (34), son of Naobo Konyak of Nokyan village, Mon, claimed he belonged to NSCN/GPRN in the rank of “lieutenant”.

One .32 pistol with eight live rounds was recovered from his possession, police said, adding that a case was registered under Arms Act and NSR Act.

Also, in another incident, a person identified as one Nobodeep Singh (55), of Uripok village, Manipur was arrested October 1 from Dimapur railway station area for illegal possession of one .32 pistol with two magazines. A case was registered with GRPS and the arrested remanded to police custody.

AK-56 rifle recovered
Diphupar police September 27 seized one AK-56 rifle from one Ambassador car (NL 01C 7403) that had met with an accident and arrested one person identified as Rinchihan Tangkhul (22), son of Khavangshing of Teinem village Ukhrul, Manipur.

According to PRO, the car had met with an accident at central jail junction with another car (Santro). Police personnel, who had gone to investigate the accident, on searching the vehicle found illegal arms, PRO said. A case under relevant sections of IPC/Arms Act and NSR Act was registered, police added.
