Northeast farmers meet held at CIH

NE farmers meet under the theme “Better Access to Markets” was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Nagaland in collaboration with SFAC, New Delhi, State Horticulture Department (SHD) and SASRD-Nagaland University (NU), Medziphema from October 3-4 at CIH, Medziphema.

On the technical session held on October 4, topics on “Developing farmers’ organization- process & critical challenges” was presented by Mihir Sahana, MD, IGS. Sunil Kumar Sihag, vice-president, Synergy Technofin Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi presented on “Business opportunities for farmers organization” and Ranjith Kumar K, Project Head (South & Central) ICCOA, Bangalore spoke on “Market linkage for farmers organization”.

In the evening session on “Formation of NE Horti Farmers Forum” two discussion sessions were held wherein farmers deliberated on issues, challenges and way forward on formation of NE horticulture farmers’ forum.

The chairman summed up the panel discussion with a decision to form NE Horticulture Farmers’ forum where CIH would give administrative support, IGS, New Delhi would be consultant and SFAC, New Delhi would fund the forum initially for a year.

He also congratulated the organizers for initiating such noble cause for the benefit of the farming community.
The programme ended with distribution of some machineries to various beneficiaries.

A total of 172 participants representing 75 farmer groups, 14 NGO’s and 13 different government and private organizations attended the two-day meet.
