Naga People’s Front (NPF) Sunday said that there was not an “iota of truth” in Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s (NPCC) allegation that state health and family welfare minister Küzholüzo (Azo) Nienu’s statement on NPF returning to power in the event of state election 2013 taking place amounted to “breach of privilege” of Joint Legislators Forum’s (JLF) effort.
Pointing out that the present status of the ongoing “Indo-Naga” political process was a hard earned one, NPF press bureau stated that the party had been working with “all sincerity” for a solution as enshrined in its constitution for decades.
NPF reminded that the ongoing political talk, after a long and painstaking negotiation, was entering into an era of “fruitful solution”. The party asserted that this was a development which never happened in the past and which could never be expected to happen again in future.
NPF said that despite the efforts, if this opportunity was missed, they might never have another one. The party pointed out the fact that 60 Naga legislators, cutting across party line, had reiterated their assurance to step down and pave way for an alternative arrangement consequent to the ongoing “Indo-Naga” political talks should not be misconstrued.
NPF said the JLF resolution was for “Indo-Naga” political solution before the 2013 Nagaland state general elections and it was “not an ultimatum” but an expression of optimism that a timely solution might come about as the Centre was seriously working on it.
Nagaland being part of a large democracy, elections were bound to come next year or the year next and if elections were to be held as scheduled, there was no denying that every political party had to be prepared, said NPF.
Considering these realities, NPF stated that Azo’s purported statement could in no way “weaken or harm” the ongoing negotiation.
