Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland (IRCSN) state branch Kohima organized silent procession on proper usage of Red Cross Emblem in commemoration of ICRC foundation day here on Monday.
The procession was flagged off by DC Kohima W. Honje Konyak at Red Cross complex, where hundreds of students took part in the silent procession, which proceed to Kohima local ground followed by the formal function.
Addressing the gathering before flagging off, Honje said the programme was being organized to disseminate information to the general public for awareness of the rampant misuse of Red Cross emblem.
He opined that the defaulters should be taken legal action against them as per the law. In his address, IRCSN general secretary Zakie Kire lauded the Y/JRC members who were the most important constituent of the Red Cross movement and their activities.
Highlighting the significant of Red Cross emblem, Kire said it was a neutral sign, confers protection to Army medical services and members of Red cross members and its use was regulated by International and national laws.
Stating it was government’s responsibility to ensure respect for the emblem, he said the use of emblem was regulated by Geneva Convention Act 1960 and misuse of emblem was punishable offence.
IRCSN general secretary urged the medical profession not to misuse the Red Cross emblem but asked them to proudly use their own officially allotted symbols.
IRCSN vice chairman Dr. R. Zinyü said whoever misused the Red Cross emblem including medical doctors were illegal and would term as anti-social element.
He said the Red Cross emblem was to be used in time of emergency to avoid attack and serve the people and it was under the government control.
Renowned social activist Niketu Iralu and Fredy Bubmer Engg. from Switzerland also addressed the gathering. The programme was chaired by IRCSN APO Lucy J. Tungoe and vote of thanks was proposed by IRCSN member Kholie Dolf M.C.
