‘Chaga gadi’ festival celebrated at Jalukie

Tribal festival cum youth expo 2012 Peren district ‘Chaga Gadi/Langsimnyi’ was celebrated on October 31 at Multi disciplinary sports complex Jalukie with Dr. Chumben Murry minister, agriculture as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion the minister stressed on peace and honesty among the people and appealed to the people to maintain peace, unity. Peace is the essence of any developmental activity and celebration, he said. He also spoke on preservation of culture and promotion of tourism in the State.
Chief host T.R.Zeliang, minister, planning & co-ordination Vety & A/H, parliamentary affairs, evaluation also spoke on the occasion and said that the objective of organizing such festival was to preserve the rich culture and tradition of the Nagas which is our identity. He also said that the government of Nagaland was interested to uplift the talents of youth and the youth expo was where the youth can showcase their talents and products.
The significance of Langsimnyi was shared by Pausui Zeliang, President ZOA. He said the festival was the occasion for honouring married sisters, cousins, aunties and daughters by men folks. The event takes place at pre-harvest period which is the leanest season of the year. Significance of Chaga Gadi was also shared by Dr. Ratan Kaurintta, Sr. Asst. Professor NU.  Special number was presented by fair friends, and traditional ballet by Daniel, DPO the inaugural programme ended with vote of thanks by Senti Ao, Deputy Commissioner Peren.
Various indigenous games competitions were held like – wrestling, tug of war, high jump long jump, etc. the most important feature of the event was the cultural dances and folk songs by various troupes and varieties stall were set up to show case their talents and products. Inaugural programme concluded with Chaga Gadi /Langsimnyi feast. The evening programme of youth fest cum Miss Peren ‘celebrating youth’ was graced by Dr. Nicky Kire as the chief guest. He appreciated the young talent and urged the music enthusiasts to give keen interest in the field of music and also said that Government of Nagaland was ready to extent support and help to promote their albums. Dr. Kire enthralled the crowd with beautiful song.
