Consultative meeting on free and fair election was held at Longleng under the aegis of Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) at its centre church.
The campaign was attended by all pastors, women pastors, youth directors, village councils, VDB secretaries along with hundreds of people from all walks of life under Longleng district.
Nuklu Phom, executive secretary, PBCA, emphasizing on subject introduction urged the gathering that such election campaign should not be misinterpreted but one must understand the objectives of free and fair election campaign organized by the youth department of NBCC.
He also said the society has lost Christian ethics due to absence of free and fair election thereby hurting the foundation of the society in large.
Nuklu also added that all the leaders and politicians of the district would be contacted shortly in mission centre Longleng for a combined meeting with the church leaders, district administration and NGOs on the same topic so that “no social evil activities might loom in the district” during the time of election and the future ahead.
Along with a paper presentation, Libanthung, Lotha deputy commissioner, Longleng highlighted on administrative directives and said poll was the most important event in the election process.
“In a democracy, it is through the poll that electors express its choice of candidate to represent them. Any irregularity in the conduct of poll may vitiate the election. Therefore, it should ensure that the poll is conduct strictly in accordance with the law and the prescribed procedure”, stated the DC.
Further, DC also launched a booklet on clean election campaign titled “Engaging the power elections-a spiritual issue for Christians”.
H. Leisha Phom, president, Phom Peoples Council (PPC) and Amenla Phom, general secretary, Phomla Hoichem Longleng spoke at the campaign.
Other highlights of the programme included recommendation and resolution, launching of election torch, special song by Paman Phom and a special prayer for 2013 election.
