In the daylong seminar on the “Role of Tangkhuls in Manipur” organized by the 16 Assam Rifles at Shangshak, Brig. Arun K Pandey said Tangkhuls were inextricably part of India while outlining the need to preserve the rich and diverse culture of the Nagas.
Brig. Arun K Pandey, who attended as the chief guest of the seminar held at 16 Assam Rifles at Shangshak on Thursday, stated that Tangkhuls were inextricably part of India and whatever was done in the past cannot be undone.
He made the statement while delivering a concluding remark during the seminar that was participated by representatives and civilians from the areas.
The chief guest also said that the vast land was the biggest asset of Tangkhuls and must be handed down to younger generation who were caught in the warp of change and modernity.
Brig. Pandey felt that media and NGOs should also play a constructive role in the development of society adding the need to document the rich culture of the Tangkhuls and Nagas.
In the one-day seminar, academician Dr. Ringkahao Horam, VVD director Tennyson Kazingmei and journalist Sothing Shimray, also the president of Ukhrul District Journalist Association (UDJA), attended as the resource persons.
Dr. Horam delivered a talk on the “Tangkhul history, heritage and culture” and “Tangkhuls and their future ahead,” while Sothing Shimray spoke on the “Role of Tangkhuls in the development of Manipur.” Tennyson Kazingmei made a presentation on the “Role of government in providing opportunities of devevlopment to Tangkhuls.”
Earlier in his keynote address, Col. Naveen Teota, commandant of 16 Assam Rifles, emphasized on the rich and vibrant culture of Tangkhuls while also highlighting the mysticism associated the hill tribesmen that have been a subject of interest and curiosity.
