One person was killed and two others injured when a water tanker (NL01 A7058) fell some 400 into a gorge seven kilometers from Longleng on Sunday morning.
According to police, the deceased who died on the spot was identified as C. Chingmei Phom (13), son of L . Chuba Phom of Sakshi village presently residing at P.P.C ward, Longleng, while the injured were identified as driver of the ill-fated truck, Baren Bora (35), son of Deman Bora resident of Dimapur, and handyman, Martin Basumatary (30), of Balisia village under Darrang district, Assam.
The two with both fractured legs and head injury were referred for further treatment in Dimapur.
Police said the accident took place when the tanker was proceeding towards Pongo village, Tuensang road, for filling water meant for stadium construction.
The two injured were rescued by the villagers.
However, the body of the deceased was retrieved only in the evening under the cliff with special tasks force from the 31AR, police and ex-servicemen who were expert in rock climbing.
