For the second day, the musical “We Will Rock You” gripped music lovers who turned up to enjoy  the scintillating performance at the DSCC stadium, Dimapur.

Produced and directed by V. Até Kevichüsa, the musical based on evergreen compositions of the legendary rock band Queen, has once again proved that that the state is now set for the youth of Nagaland to not only experiment with the genre but also export the groundswell of talents out the state and the country.

A musical’s storyline set in the future where the earth was called ‘Planet Mall’ under the totalitarian regime of Globalsoft Corporation and the experience of the protagonist Galileo Figaro, ably enacted by Obed Kath, was so effortlessly woven by the rest of the cast and characters meticulously chiseled.

The inhabitants of Planet Mall, Gaga Kids who did not know what rock music was all about experiences tyrannical censure from the ruler Killer Queen (Toshinaro) who ordered a crackdown on the Bohemians who believed in a prophecy.

Khashoggi, brilliantly enacted by rising rock star Akihito Kinni of the UDX went on a mission to curb the freedom of the Bohemians at the Heart Break Hotel.

Galileo and his girl friend Scaramouche (Menguse Suokhrie), the last of the Bohemians, finally found the musical instruments hidden by Queen 300 years ago and thus fulfilled a prophecy of reviving the spirit of rock and roll.

To create the magic of the musical, producer/director V. Até Kevichüsa began preparing the actual ground some six months back though she began toying with the idea of staging a musical since the mid 1980s.

Admitting that staging such a musical was not easy, Até who comes from a family of renowned Naga musicians told Nagaland Post that lining up the main and supporting cast was a huge task which needed time.

Given the lack of excellent music infrastructure in the state, Até praised the talents who had risen on the occasion to create magic nothing less than the original musical.

Até’s choice of talents for each character of the musical was exceptionally brilliant and each of them perfectly fitted into the roles.

For Akihito Kinni, who exceptionally well enacted the role of Khashoggi, said he got into the play with excitement and got about two months to prepare for his role and the lines.

On the last day of the musical, the response of the audience and spectators were overwhelming. The response well hid the sight of few empty chairs in the stadium as the talents were given a standing ovation for the magical musical.
