Sitting MLA from Dimapur-II, S.I Jamir, Saturday, said Dimapur is a “melting pot” with many youth facing unemployment problem.
Jamir was speaking as the chief guest at the “10th Excellency Award” cum general meeting of the Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) here at Imliyanger Memorial Centre (IMC), Dimapur.
Stating that in a place like Dimapur, “challenge” was the need of the hour for survival, Jamir said that the message of “excellence” should be conveyed to friends and not only confined to one self.
Terming that Aos have been looked upon as “intellectual” and has been a guidance for the Nagas, Jamir lamented that for the last 10 years other tribes has overcome the Aos for which he urged upon the gathering to inculcate hard work, determination and to be consistent.
Urging upon Ao student communities to bring back the aura of folklores and traditions, Jamir also called upon them for enlivening the culture and traditions in tune with modernization so that others could appreciate and recognize it.
Also stating that the most pressurizing problems that the Naga youths were facing today was “unemployment” such as “half educated unemployed” and “educated unemployed” youths, the veteran politician however encouraged the students not only to target government job but to look beyond by venturing into private sectors for self employment.
Voicing his concern that the state government should create more employment opportunities and listen to the voice of the unemployed youths, Jamir said now the Naga youths have understood the “work culture” as many of them was employed in different parts of the country including in private firms.
‘Excellence: Measuring weight for performance’
Meanwhile, managing director, Heritage Publication House, Dimapur, Dr. Lanusangla Tzüdir, while lauding the ASUD and congratulating the awardees and parents Saturday said that “excellence” was about measuring weight for performance within one’s yards and regarded it as one of the highest position.
Terming that “excellence” as a habit entails a process to go without being stopped, Dr. Lanusangla urged the students never to cease to be “excellent”.
Terming that Nagas have the so called “chalta hain” attitude, she urged the students not to compromise with anything in their endeavors.
Stating that Nagas were talented people, she encouraged the students by saying that to be an excellent performer, one has to be committed and should have determination to excel.
Cash and certificates were awarded to eight students while certificates were awarded to seven students.
Meanwhile, the programme started with an invocation prayer by associate pastor (women), DABA, Amongla Aier, welcome address was delivered by ASUD president, Süngkum Aier, felicitation by executive convener, ASUD, Mozen Aier, special numbers were presented by Wapong Ozükum and Toshimeren, vote of thanks was delivered by statistical secretary, ASUD, Lanutoshi, while the benediction was pronounced by youth director, Ao Baptist Arogo, Diphupar, Tiayanger.
Meanwhile, the union has also elected a new team of office bearers. The new team will be led by Opongtokba Longkumer (president), Lanutoshi Imsong (vice-president), L. Bendang Jamir (general secretary), Lanumeren (finance secretary) and Süngkum Aier as (executive convener).
