Councils adopt resolutions for Feb 23 polls

In view of the ensuing state assembly election, various village and colony councils in Dimapur have adopted resolutions for conduct of free and fair election.

The councils’ meeting resolutions decided to restrict setting up of camps, inflow of liquor and interference of outsiders within their jurisdictions and appealed residents and candidates to abide by its resolutions.

NVC: Naharbari Village Council (NVC) during its emergency meeting held on February 9 at its council hall has unanimously adopted resolutions in connection with the upcoming state general assembly.

Accoring to NVC chairperson, the council decided to restrict setting up youth camps within its jurisdiction, ban use of alcohol or any other intoxicants during the election period and not to allow any outsiders in its area on polling day.

The council also informed that if any unwanted situation arises from the same, the intending candidate would be held responsible.

NVC decided to allow only genuine voters to cast their votes and not to entertain outsider/bogus voters to cast their votes within its jurisdiction.

Landmark, Midland & Residency colonies: Joint council meeting of Landmark, Midland and Residency colonies, Dimapur, under polling station area of PWD (26, 27, 27 A & 28) held an emergency meeting on February 10.

According to a joint statement issued by council chairmen of the three colonies, the councils resolved to strictly check the inflow of outsiders within the colonies in the run up till the polling day where it would also start surveillance along with security forces starting from February 20.

The councils also informed that stern action would be taken against any land/house owner who harbors outsiders.

The statement further stated that outsiders would not be allowed to enter the polling station premises on the polling day.

SCCD: Supply Colony Council Dimapur (SCCD) during its executive meeting on February 10 resolved not to allow opening of any camp in the colony of any candidate or political parties; ban use of alcohol, drugs and money during electioneering, electioneering feasting, late night partying. It also informed that all electioneering process should not go beyond 9 p.m.

Colony council’s chairman, I. Panger informed that any candidate seeking to hold meeting in the colony must first contact council chairman and executive body who in turn would arrange and provide platform to share their programme views and policies for the colony.

Outsiders would not be allowed to interfere in the electioneering process for which the council would strictly check and verify such cases and further appealed to the genuine voter(s) to exercise their franchise and vote according to their free will.

Appealing all the intending candidates to strictly comply with the resolution and help conduct free, fair and peaceful election, the council has also requested district administration and police to deploy sufficient numbers of armed personnel for patrolling duty in the colony and also asked to station one flying squad vehicle to meet any eventuality for maintenance of law and order for peaceful conduct of election.

IEC: Industrial Estate Council (IEC) along with women society and youth organization in a joint meeting on February 11 resolved to keep a check on unwanted situation/nuisance created by any person.

The colony informed that any person or group creating such situations would be doing at their own risk and the defaulters would be dealt seriously by the council.

KVC: Kacharigaon (Phevima) Village Council (KVC) during its meeting held on February 9 has resolved not to allow opening of camps and offices by any political parties within its village jurisdiction; anti-social activities, use of alcohol, drugs and other intoxicating items would be strictly prohibited; outsiders whose name are not enlisted in the electoral roll would not be allowed to enter the pooling station on polling day. It further said that any violation on the resolutions adopted by the council would invite disciplinary actions.
