Governor of Nagaland Tuesday advised caution in going ahead with the Direct Benefits Transfer Scheme in the state.
Addressing the two-day Conference of Governors convened by President Pranab Mukherjee, Nikhil Kumar said the concern is about inadequate coverage under Aadhar and unsatisfactory coordination with the state governments respectively.
“I am sure that the Finance Minister, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission and Nandan Nilekani have taken note of these concerns and will take action to address them”, he said. Earlier, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh while addressing the conference said “Direct Benefits Transfer Scheme is an important step that the government has taken to improve targeting, reduce corruption, eliminate waste and enhance efficiency in the public delivery system”.
PM said that Centre has planned to incrementally roll out the scheme from identified districts to the whole country to deliver benefits of identified schemes to the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, Assam governor JB Patnaik, red-flagging increasing activities of the Maoists in Assam said that the anti-talk faction of ULFA led by Paresh Baruah, which is fast emerging as a force to reckon with in Assam, has planned to hold a crucial meeting to firm up its future strategy.
ULFA (AT) headed by Paresh Baruah, self-styled commander-in-chief, has continued to carry forward its struggle for sovereignty.
“A recent input suggests that the outfit has planned to hold a meeting at Arunachal-Myanmar border near Changlang in December-January, 2012-13 apparently to strategize its future course of action…,” Patnaik mentioned.
