Kohima diocese observes Ash Wednesday

February 13, 2013 | by admin

Kohima Diocese with the rest of the world observed Ash Wednesday with Rite Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop at Cathedral, Kohima as the main celebrant on February 13.

James Thoppil shared the meaning of Ash Wednesday, which is to remind us that we are made from the ash and that one day we shall return to ash.

In his homily, Bishop said to the people that lent was the season for repentance; it was also the time for changes in personal life through fasting and prayer and to come closer to God. The Church also invited personal conversion and change in becoming true Christian.

The Catholic traditional liturgy calendar during lent from Ash Wednesday and the succeeding 40 days is marked by fasting and abstinence in preparation of Good Friday and is the period when Christ was on fasting and prayer in the desert.
