BJP blames Cong
for Nagaland’s woes

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed Congress stating that it was the party which ruled Nagaland for a longer period and brought the state to such a “challenging situation” now.

Calling it “extremely shameful”, BJP said it was the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who took the decisive step to ensure that the state debts were “wiped out” and established the tribal affairs ministry to provide infrastructure within the state and the entire Northeast.

Addressing the media in Dimapur, television star turned politician Smriti Irani while pointing out overall development as one of the biggest challenges, assured that if voted back to power BJP would ensure establishment of medical and technical institutes in Nagaland. BJP is an ally of the NPF-led DAN government.

“The endeavor is to ensure that good education is provided to the state and in the strength of that education, more and more employment opportunity is provided…. I think the state has capacity to have a balance approach of both the industrial and agricultural growth” said Irani. Asserting that the state has a “huge potential” for development, Irani was hopeful that the efforts of BJP could contribute towards the state’s development and “bright future”.

Irani expressed pride in representing Gujarat and claimed that it was the only state in the country which had 24-hour power supply in all sectors, good road linkage to villages and development in terms of growth of educational, industrial and agricultural in both the urban and rural parts of the state.

Irani said that she had come to Nagaland which the vision of development that Gujarat had.
She promised that if BJP was part of the next state government, it would ensure 33% reservation in local bodies as stated in its manifesto for the forthcoming assembly elections.

It may be mentioned that BJP star campaigner would leave for Wokha and Tuli Wednesday morning to address the public there and return back on the same day to attend the DAN rally in Dimapur.

Naga sol in 6 months if NDA comes to power

Janata Dal (United)  has assured that if the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government came to power in the post 2014 general elections, it will ensure that the solution to the Naga political problem would be achieved within six months of formation of the next government.

This was stated by JD (U) national secretary Arun Kumar in an exclusive interview to Nagaland Post at the party office at Walford Dimapur.

While maintaining that all national political parties were “very serious” in solving the vexed Naga issue, Kumar said solution could come either six months before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections or within six months if the NDA formed the next government at the Centre.

He said though Naga political leaders visited Delhi before announcement of assembly elections to hammer an agreement, it could not materialize but assured, that as a national party, the JD (U) would ensure early solution after polls.

Hitting out at Naga political groups for “interfering” in the assembly elections, Kumar asked the groups not to interfere in the elections but allow the people exercise their franchise freely.

“Although NSCN groups have said that they had nothing to do with the elections ; yet there were so many interferences. We welcome their decision not to involve in the elections but some small group, small people or some individuals were doing this” he said.

On the pre-poll  alliance with NPF which was supporting the UPA government at the centre, Kumar said NPF has stopped supporting UPA government as chief minister Neiphiu Rio felt the Congress has not done anything for the state.

Kumar maintained it was for this reason, that there was now a fresh alliance with JD (U) and BJP.
He said the pre-poll alliance between NPF-BJP-JD (U) was to “wipe out the Congress and we need Rio and Rio needs us.”

Kumar also asserted that JD (U) would ensure wide development in the state as it supported women reservation and development of backward districts.

Earlier at a press conference, Kumar claimed that despite JD (U) enjoying good public support, its candidates were defeated in earlier election owing to interference by undergrounds.

He also said there was fear psychosis among people even in this election and cited his visit to 40 Bhandari A/C and 49 Tamlu A/C, where public approached him with grievances faced at the hands of the “undergrounds”.

Affirming that JD (U) fully supported the Naga peace talk, Kumar asked undergrounds not to disturb party candidates as it supported the peace process.  Kumar will participate in the DAN rally Wednesday here at Dimapur and visit 58 Shamtor-Chessore on February 15.

It maybe mentioned that Janata Dal (United) and BJP are pre-poll alliance partner of NPF-led DAN.
