Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced re-poll/fresh poll in nine polling stations Tuesday spread across nine districts for the state assembly general election, 2013.
In a press release the Election Commission of India said that the re-polling would begin at 7 a.m. and go on till 4 p.m. at the respective polling stations.
It maybe mentioned that the re-polling in nine polling booths were ordered as voting was adjourned because of disturbances by miscreants, clashes between supporters of political parties and candidates and damage of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in several booths on February 23, a notification of the state election department said.
Meanwhile, elections to Tuensang Sadar-I was countermanded following the demise of Congress candidate P Chuba Chang on February 22 from where he was seeking re-election. Counting of votes will be held on February 28 next.
Sec. 144 imposed in Mokokchung, Dimapur
DIMAPUR, FEB 25 (NPN): In view sporadic post-poll violence and heightening of tension in several places, DCs of Dimapur and Mokokchung have promulgated Section 144 Cr PC in specified areas.
DC Mokokchung Muroho Chotsu stated that the prohibitory order came into effect from 5 p.m. on February 25 to 5 a.m. of February 26 till further orders.
The promulgation was necessitated by apprehension that the law and order situation might go out of control endangering life and property in Mokokchung town, Ungma village, Mokokchung village, Khensa village and Mekuli village. These areas have been declared as “sensitive areas”.
The DC also felt that the existing tension was likely to continue and disturb peace in the areas.
Assembly of three or more persons on the streets or public places including holding of public meetings have been banned under the section.
Possession of any kind of firearms, spears, dao(s)/machetes, knives, bows and arrows, slings/catapults with marbles, wooden or cane sticks have been banned.
Movement of vehicles other than those belonging to security forces, magistrates, medical or authorized vehicles have been banned in the specified zones without the prior permission of the DC, Mokokchung.
Through another order, DC Mokokchung informed all candidates in the district that only counting supervisors and counting assistants, persons authorized by the Election Commission, public servants on duty in connection with the election, candidates and their agents would be allowed inside the counting hall on February 28 from 8 a.m. onwards.
Dimapur: In view of re-poll in 36 Toshiho under 5-Ghaspani-II assembly constituency, DC Dimapur Hushili Sema has promulgated section 144 CrPc in the same area for 12 hours starting from February 25 6 p.m. till 6 a.m. February 26.
The prohibitory order was specific only to the general voters of polling station No.36-Toshiho under 5 Ghaspani-II A/C.
An official source also disclosed that re-poll will be conducted on February 26 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Re-poll was considered after reports of intimidation, threat to the public even in the presence of general observers and polling officers by certain elements.
On February 23, out of the 330 voters in the area only 70 persons were able to cast their votes, the source said. (Staff Reporter)
NBCC calls for tolerance
With reports of post-poll violence hitting several constituencies, Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) Monday appealed all Nagas to maintain Christian spirit of “tolerance” amongst them.
In a statement, NBCC has also requested all to “uphold peace and tranquillity” in all the re-polling stations.
While lauding the general public for adhering to the Clean Election Campaign guidelines, NBCC said the elections have concluded with “a relatively peaceful atmosphere.” The council however said in light of the “sporadic post-poll violence” it appealed all to maintain and uphold peace.
State registers 87.64 % voter turn-out on Feb 23 polls

KOHIMA, FEB 25 (NPN): Percentage of voter turn-out in the state has increased by four percent in the latest information released from the chief electoral officer’s (CEO’s) office on Sunday.
According to the latest data available with Nagaland Post, the highest voter turn-out district wise was recorded in Longleng with 96% followed by Kiphire 95.41 and Wokha 94.65.
The lowest district wise turn-out was registered in Phek with 69.18 which was more than 50%.
Constituency wise, the highest turn-out was reported in Impur with 97.78% closely followed by Noklak with 97.08%.
