Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland (ZB (N)), and Zeliangrong Students Union Nagaland ZSUN have issued a clarification with regard to recognition of Rongmei tribe.
ZB (N) secretary, Azeu Namcyn Hau and ZSUN president, Penam in a release stated the Rongmei was not recognized as a whole, but to those who settled prior to 1963 in Nagaland.
They also stated that the recognition was done according to the Electoral Role 1963 and that it was done only after enumerating head count by the committee set up by the government and the C.D of enumeration was kept at DC’s office Peren, Kohima, Dimapur and home department for record.
Further they said such enumeration was not done on any Nagas or non-Nagas while recognizing the tribe in Nagaland and therefore, urged Nagas brothers to support the recognition of Rongmei tribe, stating, “They are genuine to be included as one of the Naga tribes in Nagaland”.
