Englan Range Students’ Union (ERSU) has expressed dismay that the government high school, Englan, the only high school in the range, which falls under Wokha district was functioning with only eight teachers.

The school has been functioning with inadequate teachers for the past several years and without any science and language teacher and was discovered when members of the students union along with its federating unit went on a tour of educational institutions within its range jurisdiction on May 23.

A release from ERSU president and general secretary stated that the handful of arts graduate teachers were compelled to teach even science, apart from their assigned subjects, indicating that despite the apathy, the teachers were at least hardworking and dedicated.

The union also revealed that in government middle school, Changsu Old, there are computer but no a computer operator/instructor to instruct the students.

It also pointed out that several primary schools have been upgraded to middle schools and therefore teacher’s strength should be increased after the completion of building construction.

The union also suggested that the use of chalk/blackboard and typewriters in primary schools should be replaced by whiteboards and computer sets respectively, keeping in mind that excessive use of chalk was bad on the users’ health and that the need for computer has become must in order to minimize humans effort and for many positive outcomes.

Disclosing the above factors, ERSU has appealed to the authority in-charge for redress of the grievances at the earliest.
