Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who is qaidi number 16656 in Pune’s Yerwada Jail, has reportedly been denied home cooked food.
The jail authorities have denied Dutt homemade food on the ground that he is not an undertrial but a convict.
According to the prison manual, home cooked food can only be given to the undertrials and that too on medical grounds.
Earlier this month, when Sanjay Dutt had surrendered to a TADA court, he had requested that he be allowed home cooked food, a mattress and some medicines inside the prison.
The court had allowed him the three for just one month. After the completion of a month, the jail authorities were to decide whether the privilege should be extended to Dutt.
However, the authorities in Yerwada Jail, Pune, have declined Dutt the home cooked food and sought clarity from TADA court on whether Sanjay Dutt can be allowed home cooked food.
Sanjay Dutt surrendered on May 16 at a TADA court and was sent to Arthur Road Jail before being shifted to Yerwada a few days later. He is set to serve three-and-a-half years in jail following his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
