Kohima Town Traders Union (KTTU) has resolved to fully support the ACAUT move against taxation. This was resolved at KTTU’s first meeting on June 6 following its formation May 30 last.
At the meeting, the union also resolved not to cooperate with the Kohima Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in the event of their request for closure of shops in the state capital.
The union informed that in the event of total closure, KTTU would only abide by the directives of the apex local NGOs based in Kohima. If not, it would show solidarity only through partial bandh.
KTTU, while asserting it did not encourage formation of various trade unions, however said it was compelled to form the new union because of what it described the authoritarian functioning of the present KCCI executives.
Members of KTTU include TCP Gate Traders Union, Super Market Traders Union, Naga Hospital Kohima Traders Union, Paramedical Traders Union, PR Hill Traders Union, Highway Traders Union, Kohima District Petroleum Dealers Association, Pezieliesie Traders Union, High School Area Traders Union and Main Traders Town.
WSSU: Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) Friday extended its “fullest support” to the Action Committee against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) and appealed to all the right thinking Nagas to voice out their opinion.
In a press release, WSSU president Mughato N Awomi stated that illegal taxation was “becoming a cancer in our social system” and was derailing “our national cause.” WSSU has therefore urged all the Naga political groups to pay heed to the cries of the Naga people.
