July 5, 2013 | by admin

After successful response in Mokokchung and Kohima on June 6 and 8 respectively, “Free-Handed concert” a charity event featuring “Alobo Naga & The band” will make its final stop in Mon Town hall, on July 6 from 5.30 p.m. onwards.

Wenkhang Foundation, district partners for Free Handed Concert 2013, Mon has decided to utilize the proceeds of the event for the welfare of those children affected by cleft lip/palate in Mon district.

According to the president of the foundation, Dr. Chenjei Konyak, at least one to two children in every village of Mon district is affected by this condition.

Till date no cleft palate/lip surgery has been performed District so far. Moreover, owing to financial constraints the parents are unable to take these children out of the district for medical services.

Understanding the need of such services, the foundation has decided to conduct surgery camp for children with cleft lip/ palate at Mon Civil Hospital in the later part of this month with an aim to bring new smiles in the lives of these children. The surgery camp will be conducted in collaboration with Downtown Hospital, Guwahati.

It may be mentioned that cleft lip/ palate is a split lip, sometimes all the way up to the child’s nostril.

The defect can cause an otherwise normal child to be excluded from society and subjected to ridicule and harassment.

Beyond the social effects, the defect also can make it difficult for children to perform basic human functions, such as eating.

Through this charity event, children living with such defects will have better lives, thanks to the action of the organizing team.

The event is primarily organized by Clement Imsong, who is the managing director of Rockstar Entertainment International (REI) and also coordinator at Youth Oasis Centre (YOC) which is a Christian retreat located in Dimapur.
