Close on the heels of the July 23 Hotel Saramati meeting which rejected the GPS road alignment survey undertaken by PWD (Road & Bridges) department and with a resolve to conduct its own mapping, Nagaland Foothill Road Construction Committee (NFHRCC) along with representatives from nine tribes– Ao Senden, Sumi Hoho, Lotha Hoho, Konyak Union, Phom Union, Khiamiungan Union, Chang Union, Yimchungru Union and Sangtam Union Friday held another meeting at the residence of Yashitsungba, Kher Mahal to discuss the outcome on the rectification done by the different Naga tribes on the foothill road mapping.
Rerouted mappings of the foothill connectivity complied by Naga tribes owning land under foothill road construction project namely the Ao, Lotha, Phom, Konyak and Northern Sumi were furnished on Friday.
However, owing to certain changes required on the map submitted by the Lotha tribe with regard to road alignment which reportedly touched the Disturb Area Belt (DAB), no conclusive decision could be taken.
Nagaland Foothill Road Construction Committee had resolved during the July 23 meeting that all effort would be made to avoid touching the DAB area keeping in view the border dispute between Assam and Nagaland.
With the Lotha hoho seeking more time to finalize and do further rectification as required on the mapping in the Wokha sector, the meeting gave the hoho time till August 3 for the mapping.
According to a rough estimate, the propose route as compiled by the Naga tribes under Nagaland Foothill Road Construction Committee is approximated around 230-250 kilometers.
A little over a 100 kilometers fall under Lotha region, 84 kilometers in the Ao region, 38 kilometers in the Konyak region, 19 kilometers in the Phom region and 15 kilometers in the Northern Sumi region.
In comparison, the GPS survey map complied by the Road & Bridges department on the proposed foothill road was longer and run around 308 kilometers.
Appealing the Lotha community to hasten the road mapping, Supu Jamir, convener said it was only then that the final draft of the entire road would be done and a blue print of the said map be submitted to the PWD (R&B) department for technical assessment.
Dr. Sangyu Yaden, president Ao Senden who was also present in the meeting called upon the whole nine tribes to stick together till the end.
He also said Senden would not allow nor tolerate any politically motivated or vested interest parties or individuals to manipulate the foothill road connectivity project.
The Friday meeting also reiterated its resolve to demand additional funds for construction of bridges along river Doyang, Dikhu and Milak river from the state government apart from the Rs. 40 crore earmarked for the foothill road connectivity.
Suggestion were also put up at the meeting that the work contract for the road construction should be allotted in short distance basis to different contractors so that the work is of high-quality and less time consumed in the construction.
