A total sanitation campaign (TSC) organized by the Confederation of Chang Students Union (CCSU) and sponsored by Water and Sanitation Support Organization (WSSO), state PHE department, was held here at Bazaar junction Friday.
Total sanitation campaign is a comprehensive programme to ensure sanitation facilities in rural areas with broader goal to eradicate the practice of open defecation.
Highlighting the importance of sanitation, Ashale Seb, IEC, Consultant DWSM, said safe disposal of human wastes and waste water and solid wastes management controlled vector-borne diseases.
Ashale urged the people to keep the toilet neat and clean and wash hand with soap after defecation and before meal for the safety of personal health.
She further called upon every citizen to be a responsible towards town sanitation in order maintain healthy environment.
PHED Tuensang division junior engineer Ngamen Chang highlighted some of the main objectives of the sanitation campaign, which include bringing an improvement in quality of life in the rural areas; elimination of open defecation to minimize the risk of contamination of drinking water sources and food.
Also, speaking at the programme, ADC Tuensang Sushil Kumar Patel said sanitation was basic necessity of human being.
He called upon the people to participate and shoulder responsible to ensure better environment.
Urging the people to maintain personal hygienic, CKS president S. Ato Chang underlined the need for proper sanitation as it not only helped in combating diseases but also made a safer and cleaner environment.
Hundreds of students from various schools participated at the campaign. Earlier, the programme was chaired by editor Chongshen Chang Haanglen Le-hook (magazine) CCSU, while invocation was pronounced by Dr. Yanger Sangtam, pastor Sangtam Baptist church.
Welcome address was delivered by C. Yenten Chang, vice president CCSU. Sanitation tune was also presented by CWC, GHSS. Benediction was prayed by Moatoshi pastor Ao Baptist church Tuensang.
