NU-NSF DISCUSS ERRORS IN MARK SHEETS, DELAY IN RESULTS
Naga Students Federation (NSF) team led by its president Tongpang Ozukum Tuesday visited Nagaland University (NU), HQ: Lumami and met the university authorities to discuss issue concerning errors detected in mark sheets in the recently declared degree examinations.

Later, a press briefing was held at Ao Students’ Conference office, Mokokchung town where the NSF representatives gave detailed account and the outcome of meeting with the NU officials.

NSF president said during the interaction, the reason cited by the NU authorities was about shortage of manpower.

It was said that since the firm ‘Mind Logix’ left the university, everything was done on Microsoft Excel sheets for entering records, which according to NSF was “errors were bound to happen in such a scenario” as one LDA/dealing assistant was taking care of thousands of students.

However, the NSF said despite all those shortcomings, the NU assured that from the next calendar year, such errors would be avoided.

During the course of the interaction, NU authorities also shared some problems ‘Mind Logix’ took away all the machines/software (Automachine) for data entry works when it left. The machine needs to be reinstalled again.

For this, NSF urged the authority to set up this (automachine) by any means at the earliest possible time.

On the issue of delaying of results, the NSF pointed out that delay was obvious since the system was being done manually. Another factor however was that some colleges too have contributed for the delay.

It was said the certain colleges returned the answer scripts after more than a month without evaluating.

NSF said when the colleges themselves practiced such things delay of results was imminent.
Therefore, NSF said this issue would definitely be taken up with the higher education and ensure that defaulting colleges taken to task.

Besides, NSF also took up the issue of backlog/semester system. It was stated that academic council of the NU already decided to allow a student with a maximum of three back log papers to be eligible to continue.

ANCSU president Vilhousieli, who was also a part of NSF delegation, appealed all the colleges in Nagaland to admit those students having three back log papers.

Reiterating that it has been “lenient on the issues of error in results, delay in result declaration, NSF said it could have taken to the streets to show resentment but felt there were many ways to bring solution to those problems.

NSF expressed hope that the university would be sincere so such erroneous mistakes did not happen in future.

NSF gave a clear message to the employees of NU, particularly the exam branch, that they cannot draw their salary at the cost of the students’ career.

Also, NSF impressed upon the NU authority, including the chief rector, that necessary and required equipments/infrastructure should be provided to the examination branch as this was the most important branch in NU at the earliest.

NSF plans to have joint consultative meeting of NU authorities, principals forum, college authorities, higher education dept and chief rector of NU to work out corrective measures in the last week of August or September first week.
