One Keeled box turtle (coura mouhotii) was rescued Thursday by Dr. R. Wati, the owner of Animal Health Centre located at fellowship colony and handed over to the officer-in-charge, Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP).
The turtle was reportedly found in front of Dr. R. Wati’s veterinary clinic in the morning. According to a statement, NZP officer in charge Obed Swu said the keeled box turtle was an endangered species found in the forests of the region. Their numbers were drastically reduced in forests due to “over collection for food.”
He also informed that Dr. R. Wati is a visiting veterinary doctor in NZP and an active wildlife conservation campaigner.
NZP expressed gratitude to the doctor for his contributions and active services rendered to the cause of wildlife healthcare.
Meanwhile, another wild green pigeon was donated to NZP Thursday by some group of person whodid not wished to be named.
Officer in-charge Obed Swu while extending gratitude for the donation made also sought to remind that a number of persons have donated wildlife species in the past too but they preferred to remain incognito.
It may be mentioned that deputy speaker Er. Levi Rengma and chairman NPCB, MLA Amenba Yaden were among those who donated wild animals received as gifts to NZP, Rangapahar.
