A three-day grassroots comic making workshop began Tuesday at Jubilee Memorial Centre, Lierie here with state chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir as guest.
The workshop is being jointly organized by the Sustainable Development Forum Nagaland (SDFN) and India water portal.
Addressing the participants at the inaugural session, chief secretary Alemtemshi said that the skill of art and drawing were important as it had a power to draw people to communicate.
Jamir said comic has a huge power that gave positive impact to one’s life and to the younger people in which the pictures carry out the issues of the sustainable development of the environment.
Pointing out that 11 hill states of India constituted approximately 4% of the Indian population living in the mountain states, he said “It is a reason why we have the monsoon season that cools down the earth, but people do not really care how important this places are”.
Chief secretary also appealed to the participants to take steps to preserve the region for the future generation.
Land resources, commissioner secretary, Menukhol John said ‘the product is going to come and the efforts that you contribute in the works will bring good impact to the people’.
SDFN treasurer, Ella Mary said during the workshop the participants would learn to express their concerns through the medium of comics.
She also said comic was a medium and it has no bearers, adding that the one who cannot read can also understand by seeing the picture.
Altogether 18 participants from 10 districts will be participating in the workshop that would continue till August 29, where the India water portal would felicitate the workshop.
