1 murdered in Dimapur

In yet another heinous crime, a 25-year old man was found murdered with his neck slit from behind inside a commercial building near Golaghat Road, Dimapur Friday. 

According to Police, the deceased identified as one Angao Konyak, son of Chahong Konyak of Longwa village, Mon was employed as the caretaker of the building.

Police said the body was found at around 8.30 a.m. near the entrance of the building with cut marks on the back of the head.

The incident supposedly took place around Thursday midnight, police suspected. A broken piece of machete (dao) with blood stains was found at the crime scene, police added

After committing the crime, police said the attacker(s) decamped with cash amounting to around Rs. 2 lakh along with the safe.

Police suspected that the machete broke when it was used by the attacker(s) to open the safe. No arrest has been made so far, though some suspects were on police radar.

Soon after recovering the body, police immediately conducted a search operation in the near by areas, but was unable to trace any signs of the suspect(s). However, police said they have beefed up surveillance in and around Dimapur to nab the suspect(s).

After conducting post-mortem, the body was later handed over to the relatives late Friday afternoon. The body was then taken to his native village for the final rites.

ENSUD condemns
Meanwhile, Eastern Naga Students’ Union Dimapur (ENSUD) has strongly condemned the murder. ENSUD has appealed to law-enforcing authorities to expedite the investigation, arrest the murderer(s) and award befitting punishment as per the law. ENSUD has also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.
