Only ‘book knowledge’ not enough, says Jacob

Annual festival of school of management studies, Nagaland University was inaugurated by MLA & chairman Development Authority Nagaland (DAN), N Jacob Zhimomi Monday.

The festival “Zoommax 2013” with the theme “engaging minds, empowering success” was held at IMC hall Dimapur.

Speaking at the function, Jacob said that in contemporary context, academic excellence and book knowledge without co-curricular distinction “may end up nowhere.”

He lauded the post graduate students’ union SETAM for the innovative venture of holding such an important event within the calendar year, not only for the students of the institute but also for participation by all likeminded schools and colleges.

He said exemplary role of the host institute would go a long way in carrying forward the real essence of education to a higher and brighter dimension.

Jacob said “numerous obstacles and bends will come your way as you track along life-line, but you will not know defeat if you have the spirit to accommodate enough endurance”.

He also said that the spirit of partnership, tolerance, observance, evaluation, industrious and discipline could only earn them fine spot in any part of the globe and for that purpose one needed to be imparted necessary academic education to be managers of various ventures.
 
Efficient management of the global affairs in business, politics, administration etc has become vital aspects of brain striking concern, he said adding the size of market economic and consumers which were escalating without compromise, the MLA said.

“It has irrevocably become impossible to handle public affairs whatsoever single handedly”, he said. The MLA encouraged the students never to let inferiority complex get the better of them and accept defeat in life, but always be firm in believing “I can do it if I give my best”.

Other highlights of the opening ceremony included welcome address by Y Akum Phom, convener, Zoommax 2013, speech by Prof. R C Nayak, debate, shutterbug, panel discussions, submission of business plan, mimicry, submission time for photos and solo singing etc.

Over 250 students participated in the festival. Thirteen colleges from entire Nagaland and one college from Dibrugarh participated in Zoommax 2013 festival.
