A footpath bridge constructed under DUDA and multicultural activity centre constructed under tourism department was inaugurated in Mon town on October 31.
Minister for tourism, art & culture and election E.E. Pangteang inaugurated the footpath bridge in the presence of advisor DUDA, Naiba Konyak, Chairman DPDB & NKVIB, N. Thongwang Konyak, Deputy Commissioner Mon, Angau I Thou, departmental officials, NGOs, public leaders and party workers, stated an official bulletin.
Pangteang, in his inaugural speech, informed that the construction of the building and footbath bridge was done under centrally sponsored scheme, social infrastructure development fund (SIDF).
While enumerating various schemes done during his tenure as advisor DUDA and other schemes to be undertaken under his department, Pangteang appealed to the people to extend cooperation and support to the government and said that the landowners should not be an obstruction to any developmental activities.
Emphasizing on workmanship and ownership of the public properties, he urged upon the gathering to utilize and protect the multi-cultural building for the benefit of the people.
Pangteang also informed that in several parts of the world, tourism was the backbone of economy and their livelihood depended on tourism for survival.
Therefore, he stressed on clean environment and other strategies to attract tourists in the district and boost the rural economy through tourism.
He also said that the multi-cultural building would be handed over to Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) after a MoU was signed with department of tourism.
Advisor DUDA, Naiba Konyak, said that the department of DUDA and tourism were inter-related in developmental approaches and lauded E.E. Pangteang for construction of the building and the footpath bridge.
He informed that DUDA department was created with the initiative and support of the chief minister Neiphiu Rio with a vision for development of the backward districts of the state and urged the people to support the government for development.
Naiba also said that people should properly utilize the development fund without any complain but give feedbacks if they detect any weakness in the development and added, “We should think first before any complaint”.
He also called upon the KNSK to desist from indulgent to politics and continue to work for the betterment and upliftment of the Konyak society.
He also appealed to the people to take proper care of the building and preserve the rich culture, adding, transformation of the society and family depended upon the womenfolk.
Chairman DPDB & NKVIB N. Thongwang Konyak, also addressed the gathering. The technical wing of DUDA and tourism also gave detailed reports of the completed projects.
Deputy commissioner, Mon Angau I Thou, IAS and Orenponi, T.O, Mon proposed the welcome address.
President KNSK, Lomei Konyak also thanked the government and felicitated the minister and his entourage. The function was chaired by, Addl. Director & HOD, tourism Purakhu Angami.
