Niathu agreement should be fully implemented: ENSF

November 7, 2013 | by admin

Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) Wednesday has firmly asked the state government to implement the “Niathu Resort Agreement”, as assured by the chief minister on February 7, 2012.

Expressing dismay, ENSF president Shahsha L. Menhahu said the federation was not satisfied by the state government’s response on the issue of TET, SCERT. He asserted that “the TET, SCERT ultimatum No. 2 served on 4th October 2013 should be fully implemented”.

ENSF officials led by its president, students and educated unemployed youth on Wednesday submitted a representation to DC Tuensang and also briefed on the issue. Phase-I agitation on day 2 passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.

Some of the placards read– “Restore back all the posts which were transferred out from the eastern region”; “Fulfill Niathu resort assurance, Hon’ble CM, kindly keep your word”.

TET should be decentralized for us. We don’t have money to come and appear in the state. ENSF further informed that the phase-I, day 3 agitation would be initiated on NAP-DEF/Roads and other local issues on November 7.

Mon: In Mon around 2000 students from both government and private schools participated in the agitation with placards displaying– “We Want Teachers”, “No Teacher, No Class”, “No Class, No Exam”. The procession which began from KSU office, culminated at DC’s office, Mon.

ADC Mon assured the gathering to apprise the higher authorities concerned regarding the matter. Earlier, ENSF general secretary Honang Jess said “no new policies should affect the Niathu resort agreement; whatever demands were submitted to the govt. earlier by the ENSF should be fulfilled in toto.”

Kiphire: ENSF agitation went off peacefully at Kiphire town Wednesday. Around four thousand students from High school, Higher secondary school and colleges led by ENSF and USSC official gathered at Deluxe Point Kiphire and thereafter marched to the DC’s Kiphire and submitted the memorandum.

The letter also affirmed further course of action if government failed to fulfill its demand and warned the government for any untoward incident during the course of agitation.

Longleng: In Longleng the stir was spearheaded by Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) along with thousands of students and teachers from various schools and colleges chanting a Slogan “Restore back all the Teacher Posts”, “We Want Teachers”, “Fulfill the Niathu Resort Assurance” and “Decentralize TET in all the districts” of Eastern Nagaland.

Before submitting a memorandum to DC, a brief meeting was held at the local ground where leaders from different organisation addressed the gathering.

ENSF assistant general secretary, Topongchuba Chang said the state government failed to implement the assurances made in letter and principle at Niathu Resort, Dimapur.

He said that in 2011, ENSF detected that more than one thousand Teachers were found transferred along with the post from Eastern Nagaland.

In this connection, the federation submitted a memo to the Government to revert back all those posts to Eastern Nagaland at the earliest, citing the reason that schools in Eastern Nagaland face acute shortage of teachers he said.

He said this agitation was peaceful and democratic; however he warned that if the government failed to comply with its demand, the mode of agitation may change in which the government would be held responsible for any untoward incident that may occur in this regard.

ANSTA appeals ENSF
All Nagaland School Teachers Association (ANSTA) has appealed ENSF to exempt government schools from the purview of its agitation for sake of the students. Pointing out that final examination was very near and a few working days left, ANSTA said students thus need to attend classes.

In a press release ANSTA president Ponchulo Wanth, general secretary P.Vashum and treasurer Temjenyapang urged ENSF to reconsider its decision and allow government schools to function as normal.

Meanwhile, with regard to Khiamniugan Students’ Union ongoing stir against transfer of science teacher along with post from GHS Chiphur, ANSTA questioned the wisdom of department authority.

ANSTA said when government has banned the policy of transfer along with post, how could responsible science teacher of GHS Chiphur be transferred out along with post?

It has therefore requested the responsible authority to address the issue on priority basis and to enable GHS Chiphur to resume the class with immediate effect.
