Amidst controversy surrounding Kyong Hoho and boycott call by Lotha frontal organizations on the 10th general session of Naga Hoho in Wokha , the session got underway Monday evening under the theme ‘Commitments and responsibilities”.
Extending greetings during the introductory session, NSF president Tongpang Ozukum called upon all the tribe hohos to work strengthen the Naga Hoho, since it is a platform for every Naga. On behalf of NSF, he also assured full support to Naga Hoho.
Kyong Hoho president Yansathung Jami welcoming the delegates urged the Naga people to come together and build better future for the entire Nagas.
At a time when both the overground and the underground Nagas were divided on differing stands, the much needed unity among Nagas has become even more difficult to achieve, said Jami.
Maintaining that the confusion created wrongfully by some vested group of individuals within Lotha community apparently opposing the session from being held in Wokha pained him, he conveyed “I on behalf of my community expressed my sincere apologies”.
The Kyong Hoho president also exuded confidence that the session of Naga Hoho would be another “history making meet” that the Lotha Tribal Hall was known for.
Over the decades, the hall has seen gathering of imminent Naga personalities wherein “course making decisions” related to Naga political movement, brokering of Naga peace and even the formation of the Naga Hoho took shape, said Yansathung.
He also lamented that decades have gone by but Nagas continued to be at crossroads of advancement.
“Every event and every effort towards peace have been seen as crucial for us. But today, after over 15 years of cease-fire and peace talks, our fingers are still kept crossed in the hope of eventual permanent peace”, said the Kyong Hoho president.
He also extended warm welcome to the over 300 delegates from within the state and Assam and Manipur.
The introductory session was chaired by vice president Neikhrolo Khalo. On Tuesday, the session would commence at 10:00 am with vice president K. Inana Assumi in the chair.
Greetings would be shared by Naga Mothers Association while Kevilietuo Kiewhuo would deliver the presidential address and P. Chub Ozükum would give general secretary’s report.
Convener Amendment Committee, Timikha Koza would release the amended constitution of Naga Hoho.
In the second session, new team of office bearers for next five years term would be inducted while speeches would be delivered by outgoing and president elect. Hoho Assembly secretary Kenyuseng Tep would deliver the vote of thanks.
