In an exciting and interesting Naga Chilli Eating Competition, Chetie Khiamniugan, who ate 18 and half Naga chillies in 20 seconds, became the champion and walked home Rs. 30,000 richer.
Henito from Lazami village bagged 1st runners-up and received Rs. 20,000 after he ate 15 chillies and Kuduhuto Lohe, who ate 13 chillies, bagged third prize with Rs. 10,000.
Two consolation prizes were given to Namluai Rongmei (12 chilies) and Apon Nath (9 & half chillies) who received Rs. 5,000 each.
Omni Adin from USA, who came to Nagaland for the first time, won the first prize from tourist category after eating 10 chillies in 15 seconds and walked away with Rs. 15,000, second prize was bagged by Vikram S. Bange Ra, who ate 10 chillies in 20 seconds and received Rs. 10,000 from the organizer and the third prize was bagged by Amulya (lady) from Bangalore who ate 7 chillies and got Rs. 5,000.
It may be mentioned Namluai Rongmei participated for the third time where in 2011 he was runner-up and in 2012 he was the championed who ate 17 chillies in 20 seconds and this year got consolation prize.
Altogether 21 persons participated in the Naga Chili eating competition – the hottest chili in the world.
The competition was delayed for about one and half hours as the chillies could reach the spot in time due to traffic jam.
However, the eager and enthusiastic audience had already packed the main gallery to witness the competition.
