Fire devastates colony

December 9, 2013 | by admin

Rows of thatched houses were reduced to ashes by a devastating fire that broke out in Balijan near LRC, Lengrijan, Dimapur bordering Nagaland and Assam, in the wee hours of December 8. Inhabitants were mostly daily wage earners and some auto drivers.
When contacted, fire service officer in-charge in Dimapur, A. Wati Jamir, informed that six fire tenders were pressed into service but could not stop the devastation caused by the rampaging fire. He also alleged that there was no response from the police and fire personnel in neighbouring Assam.
Wati also said the estimates of loss of properties and others was more than Rs.3.40 lakhs.
He also said that the cause of fire had not been established but suspected it was due to electrical short circuit.
