Residents gear up to celebrate Christmas

 Along with the rest of Dimapur town, Christmas fever has already gripped Lengrijan’s Firing range colony (sector 5) and is all gearing up to celebrate the festival.
On the first week of this month, Lengrijan Village Council announced and put up its schedule for a Christmas decoration competition within its jurisdiction. As part of the competition, preparations for the celebrations began early this week in Firing Range.
GB, Firing Range colony, Unger Meren gushed about the upcoming celebrations and said, with only about 50 households and very limited budget for such competition, the locality youths have been sacrificing their time, dedication and hard labor in giving a face lift and also to bring the festive mood amongst its residence.
 “Christmas is a time for rejoicing and celebrating. In today fast-paced life, residents hardly get time to socialize. But it is during a festival like Christmas that we all come together to celebrate and have fun with friends, family and neighbours.” said GB Meren.
Skin canvas tattoo artist, Taka Jamir who is also a dedicated volunteer from the locality said, “Working for Christmas is always fun and we are working very hard to make this a wonderful Christmas for everyone. This year is special because for the first time, our locality members, both young and old is working hard together as a team”.
It is worth mentioning that instead of buying ready to use products available in the market, the colony youths are using their own creativity and artistic skills in decorating the colony.
The kids are crafting and painting all the decoration pieces by hand using thermocol blocks, newspapers and carton boxes and paints. Even food items like pasta and papadum are used creatively in the decoration pieces.
Meanwhile, Firing Range youth in charge, Meren Jamir has expressed appreciation to Lengrijan Village Council for organizing the competition, NPF secretary central Lipok Pongen, NPF minority cell president, Bishnu Bhattarcharya, vice president Rakesh Sethi, 29th Assam Riffles and all the locality residents, both young and old for providing assistance materially, financially and labour throughout the week.
