Rubber producer society inaugurated in Wokha

Pongidong Rubber Producer Society was inaugurated  on December 11 at Pongidong Village under Wokha district additional rubber production commissioner M.N Gopinath and joint rubber production commissioner Sunny Varhese as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. The inaugural programme was also attended by development officer VD Hari, assistant DO Noble Kurian and field officer Anand Lama all form Rubber Board of India.
The meeting started with invocation prayer by Ponathung Tsopoe followed by laying of foundation stone for construction of Pongidong RPS Office Building and inauguration of Pongidong RPS by the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Gopinath congratulated Pongidong villagers for taking up rubber farming as a means of income generation for livelihood. He stated that the agro climatic conditions are favorable for growing rubber in Nagaland and requested the growers to follow the guidelines of rubber board of india in cultivating rubber in scientific manner. 
The members were delighted when he announced that RBI will extend both financial and technical support for the construction of the RPS office in the coming Year. He also assured that the department will extend all possible help to make the rubber farming a success story in Nagaland.
In the second session, a seminar was held under the theme “Rubber Farming for prosperity “with a keynote address by Sunny Varhese.
He cited the problems faced by the rubber farming community and the remedies were elaborated to the participants. The wrong practice of farming was also briefed and corrective measures were explained for future farming.
In the technical sessions Anand Lama explained the pre planting operations, Noble Kurian explained the operations to be done after planting rubber and VD Hari explained the scientific aspects of tapping and processing of rubber to the members. A practical session on adoption of proper spacing for planting rubber, soil conservation techniques and mulching was also held by the officials. interaction session was held and various doubts and quires were raised which was explained and clarified by the officials.
 During the functions the members and the officials were warmly welcomed and introduced by vice president of the society Lanchibemo Tsopoe and presidential address was given by Mr. Renathung Humtsoe President of the RPS. Vote of Thanks was pronounced by Thungchibemo T Humtsoe advisor of the RPS. The function came to an end with a benediction by Yananimo Emangrui.
