YOC organizes ‘Acapella contest’ in winter carnival

As part of the ongoing two day winter carnival organized by Youth Oasis Center, a first of its kind Acapella contest under the theme “Voices for praise” was held Friday.
As part of their mission to foster Christian values and encourage Christian music in the ever changing modern society, YOC felt the need to organize an event that was about enjoying pure music, in an atmosphere that provided clean-good Family Fun.
The event saw participation from seven churches and ministries that included Chakesang Baptist Church Dimapur, N_FRNZ (DABA), Diphupar Ao Baptist Church, Evangelical Union, Mao Baptist Church, Naga United Ao Baptist Church and The Voice, Youth Ministry.
The audience was treated to an exciting evening with the participants showcasing Acapella it’s all its glory – from the popular traditional to its modern avatar.
Teams like Evangelical Union and Dimapur Ao Baptist Church went the ‘Show Choir’ route that included beat boxing synchronized dancing etc, while the other participants displayed some impressive classical renditions. The competition was judged by three very renowned music personalities in the State, Rev Nzan Founder Director Crown Golden College, Royal representative of the School of music London, UK, Hojevi Kappo, Music promoter WSBAK and founder director Naga Genius music and Zingrin Music teacher Patkai Christian College.

Also present were Pastor Temsu, Aoyimti Baptist Church who pronounced the invocation prayer and Reverent Kilang Jamir, Founder and Director, Youth harvest Ministry Ministry said the benediction.
First prize was bagged by the Evangelical Union winning the grand prize of Rs 25,000, the second prize was bagged by N_FRNZ (DABA) winning Rs 15,000 and the third prize went to the Moa Baptist Church winning RS 10,000. Consolation cash prizes were also awarded to all the other participating teams.
It may be worth mentioning that the 1st and 2nd place winners coincidently sang the same song “Carol of the Bells”, both in very exhilarating – modern renditions, however in the end, the precision and harmony of the EU bagged them the first place. The free concert / competition was well attended and ended with a encore performance by the winning team.
