Dimapur district administration has expressed concern over the rampant traffic indiscipline among drivers of two, three and four wheelers as being the prime cause for traffic snarls and as a hurdle against road safety.
This was stated by DC Dimapur N. Hushili Sema (IAS), while addressing the workshop to observe the 25th National Road Safety Week on the theme “You First” as chief guest in Town Hall, Dimapur.
In this regard, Hushili stressed on the need among public and especially drivers to be familiar with the existing traffic Rules and Regulations.
She also highlighted on the need among drivers of all types of vehicles to follow traffic rules right from homes to various destinations or offices etc.
Hushili maintained that drivers should bear in mind that they are responsible for the safety of commuters including pedestrians and therefore, it would make a big difference if they strictly obeyed driving rules and regulations.
The DC urged upon the gathering on the need for every driver to inculcate the value of “You First” so as to avoid traffic indiscipline as the most primary essence for road safety.
Hushili however lamented that despite signboards being put up at strategic traffic points and locations to facilitate smooth flow of traffic, drivers were not adhering to the rules.
She maintained that a majority of road accidents were caused due to rash and negligent driving mostly under the influence of alcohol or use of mobiles while driving.
The DC urged the drivers against driving under such conditions and warned that strict actions would be taken against such offenders as per the provisions of the law.
DSP, Traffic Dimapur, Rongsen, spoke on traffic rules and regulations and advised taxi or auto drivers to take utmost care in ensuring safety of passengers. He also advised drivers to carry necessary and valid vehicle documents and also to have patience while following the tenets of “You First”.
