Assam Rifles personnel have apprehended three NSCN (I-M) cadres, one NSCN (K) and two arms peddlers on January 24, 23 and 25 respectively from different places in the state.
According to a press release issued by IGAR (N) PRO, on January 25, the troops of 17 Assam Rifles apprehended three NSCN (I-M) cadres and two more youth near Bhandari village. The cadres have been identified as “cpl” Mhathung Lotha, “cpl” Renjamo Lotha and leacy Yankithung Lotha.
PRO said the apprehended cadres were caught moving in a Bolero (NL-05C-2627) and recovered one AK -47 Rifle, one 9mm Carbine and 29 assorted live rounds along with extortion book and Rs 58, 305 in cash from their possession. Cadres were handed over to State Police at Bhandari PS, Wokha.
On January 23, the personnel of 19 Assam Rifles apprehended one NSCN (K) cadre identified as “2nd lt” Bokato, Naga Army No 16420, near War Cemetery, Kohima while attempting to carry out extortion from trucks and taxis plying on road Dimapur to Kohima .
PRO stated that one 7.65mm pistol, two magazines and ten live rounds were recovered from his possession. According to the release, Bokato was earlier caught by 19 AR troops December 10, 2013 from Forest Colony and he was presently on bail.
The cadre was handed over to the Police Station (South), Kohima.
Based on specific information about transshipment of weapons in general area Purana Bazar, the troops of 29 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 6 Sector AR launched an operation and apprehended two arms peddlers January 24.
PRO stated that the accused identified as Kheto Sumi and Holoto Yeptho both residents of Zunheboto district were apprehended with two pistols of 7.65 mm caliber along with four magazines and one Bolero without registration number. The two accused were handed over to the East Police Station, Dimapur, stated PRO.
