Against the backdrop of the prevailing tension in Dimapur-Karbi Anglong border areas, villagers in the area have decided to “stand united” and prepared to face any eventuality. The decision was taken at a joint meeting of members from Sensolikum Village, Longjang group, Jenjong group, Tongti group Putusen Yim and INA Co at Sensolikum village public ground, Dimapur Tuesday.
Members who attended the meeting further cautioned United Naga Tribes Association (UNTA) Chubatangit Jamir and secretary Hukavi Yepthomi to refrain from issuing any “misguided” statement without knowing the facts and reality of the case. Those who attended that meeting asked UNTA to “consult” Sensolikum members if they wished to know the facts. Further, the meeting participants also said the question of “registered and unregistered” members did not arise.
Withdraw Sec 144 CrPC: UNTA
UNTA in a representation to DC Dimapur has asked for immediate withdrawal of Section 144 CrPC in the “traditional land” of the Nagas adjoining Dimapur within 24 hours. UNTA chairman Chubatangit Jamir and secretary Hukavi Yepthomi also demanded the district administration to maintain neutrality in all policing matters and stop “unnecessary harassment” of Naga inhabitants of the area. UNTA urged district administration to co-ordinate with its Assam counterpart and to bring those Nagas arrested by Diphu police.
While seeking co-operation, UNTA said that failing to consider the demands, it would not be held responsible for any untoward consequences.
