Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NSCU) Monday said its stand on open tender with regard to issuing work order for the foothill road construction work was “legitimate” and not intended against any particular tribe or hoho.
NSCU was reacting to Nagaland Foot Hills Road Construction Committee’s statement that NSCU should withdraw its statement on the foothill road construction failing which the union would not be allowed to execute any contract works within the jurisdiction of the 10 tribes.
In a statement, NSCU president Pele Khezhie and general secretary John Kath clarified that the union’s demand for open tender was not only for the ongoing “historic project” of the foothill road construction but for all other major contract works in Nagaland.
NSCU said the union has been advocating the rights and privileges of registered contractors and to ensure quality and standard workmanship through open tender for the last 38 years. The union also said any NGO could not override the rules framed and enforced by the competent authority. NSCU said the union would leave the matter to fellow Nagas to judge who was “truly working for justice and fairness” and reiterated its demand that major projects in the state should be carried out with all fairness through tender for selection of contractors.
