Joint Secretary Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Shambhu Singh has reportedly issued directives on Assam Rifles in Manipur, not to allow the chartered helicopter of DAN consensus candidate and chief minister Neiphiu Rio to land in Manipur for election campaign.
This was revealed to Nagaland Post by media adviser to the Nagaland chief minister and secretary North East Regional Parties Forum (NERPF) Abu Metha over telephone Friday. Metha, maintained, that the chartered helicopter was to fly Rio to Manipur Saturday for election campaign after obtaining permission from the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the government of Manipur.
When asked, he said AR admitted they had not received any written but only verbal directive from Shambu Singh, joint secretary in the MHA.
Metha however, said Rio will go ahead, irrespective of whatever happened and fly to Manipur Saturday to address election campaigns for Soso Lorho, NPF candidate for Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency. He also said Nagas in the hill districts have also warned of agitation if Rio’s chartered helicopter was prevented from landing in Manipur.
