Basic minimum needs required in remote areas: Dr. Ashwani

Nagaland governor Dr. Ashwani Kumar Friday emphasized on improvement of basic minimum needs for the people in the remote areas of the state which lacked proper infrastructure for education, health and agriculture systems, especially to the younger generation of the society.
The governor was addressing silver jubilee celebration of Kohima Union Kohima (KUK)-cum Aoleang Monyu festival of the Konyak Naga community at the Naga Heritage Village Kisama.  He informed that as per statistics, Mon district is the most backward in terms of literacy and education that has the lowest literacy rate of 56.60 % (as per the Census 2011) against the overall literacy rate of Nagaland with 80.11 %.
To this, he said that the government was committed to bring rapid development, especially in backward and remote areas.
The governor also emphasized on the need of modernizing Agriculture, horticulture and forestry to make a concerted effort to improve livelihood conditions and to create more economic opportunities.
Dr Ashwani also recalled his visit to Mon district and said it was an “eye opening visit” on learning the history of Konyak Naga community and to the other interior areas of the district.
To achieve long term results, Dr. Ashwani suggested the adoption of Morung (social dormitories in villages for the youths) system of living and in school educational structure. The governor further appealed Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organization (ENPO) and NGOs to take up the implementation and monitoring of this schemes which he said was vital for the children. Guest of honour of the function president Angami Public Organization (APO) Keneingunyü Sekhose in his address appealed to all to work together for the development of the Naga society. He acknowledged Kohima Union Kohima for their initiative and efforts for the development of Kohima town.
Earlier KUK president P. Longang, in his presidential address, highlighted about the Aoleang Monyu festival.
First president KUK L.Noklem and president KU Mon S. Manlip also spoke on the occasion.
The celebration witnessed special melody by Wangcha Khong, folk dance by Khiamnungan and Konyak troupes, folk tune by Nahalan of Kohima and vote of thanks was proposed by convener, Silver Jubilee KUK T. Ngamjok. Pastor KBBK H. Moba said the invocation prayer.
The second session was followed by folk song and dance competition, songs and bamboo dances.
Tobu and Longching area group emerged as winner of the competition while Mon, Tapi and Tizit and Phomching area and Chen and Aboi area secured second and third positions respectively.
