Media awareness seminar at CMHSS

Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School (CMHSS) organized a ‘media awareness seminar’ at the school auditorium at Impur here Tuesday. The seminar was sponsored by GLEAM Ministries, USA. The resource persons for the seminar were members of the Mokokchung Press Club.
More than ninety students of the school from Class VI-XII attended the seminar, which was moderated by MPC president, Limalenden Longkumer.
Speaking at the seminar, Limalenden encouraged the students to read good books in order to hone their writing skills. He said reading good books was the best mean to increase the vocabulary and improve the composition and grammar as a writer.
Besides, he also highlighted on the need to be aware of the happenings around and encouraged students to regularly read the local newspapers to keep updated on the happenings going on in the society.
The Morung Express senior correspondent Longrangty Longchar, speaking on the topic ‘why people write’, said most people take to writing to vent out the thoughts inside their minds. He encouraged the students to maintain a diary and jot down their feelings in times of sadness, joy or anger. He also encouraged the students to take writing seriously.
Ao Milen Editor Akangnungsang Jamir gave a power-point presentation on ‘social media – its merits and demerits’ and also screened a short documentary on ‘abuse of social media’.
Akangnungsang, while saying social media was here to stay, cautioned the students not to get addicted to social media as it seriously affected the mind and lifestyles of an individual.
He also strongly lamented that young students nowadays spend more money on recharging their mobile phones instead of buying and reading a good book. Asking the students not to let social become masters of their life, Akangnungsang encouraged the students to regularly visit the library and invest their time and money in buying and reading good books.
During the practical session, students were asked to write shown some pictures and given five minutes to write anything that comes to their minds. The resource persons were greatly impressed by the writings of some of the students and their writing skills.
The principal of the school, Chubainla expressed gratitude to the resource persons and to GLEAM Ministries, USA and its representatives Mr & Mrs Bendangtemjen for making the seminar a great success.
Meanwhile, another separate seminar sponsored by GLEAM Ministries, USA was held for the teachers of the school with resource persons from Mokokchung College for Teachers, Yimyu.
The teachers were trained on teaching skills, child psychology and classroom management.
It may be noted here that Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School was established in 1895. The school at present has 256 students and 23 teaching staff. This year the school produced an HSSLC Topper No 7 and also secured the highest marks in Ao subject at the HSLC exam.
