Joint effort diffuses tense situation in Khensa village

A potentially volatile situation in Khensa village was diffused after all the parties involved in an incident came to a mutual understanding following many hours of negotiation Tuesday night.
The incident occurred when some youth volunteers of Khensa village came face to face with five armed cadres who were interrogating two persons suspected to be from the rival group inside the village jurisdiction. A heated argument followed between the cadres and the volunteers, which culminated with the “apprehension” of all by the volunteers and were later kept at the village.
On hearing the information, district administration, police and Assam Rifles arrived at the village to take stock of the situation.  However, the youths did not release the apprehended cadres till they recorded their statements. It was only after persistent negotiations and persuasions that seven individuals were handed over to the civil administration at 10 p.m. They were later handed over to 31 Assam Rifles and police along with recoveries.
Apprehended Cadres were identified as Imoyanger, S/o Kazuchuba of Longmisa; Imkongtiba S/o Imnatongba of Changtongya; Zulutenzuk S/o Tinumeri of Kangtsung; AngemThankhul S/o late Romi of Ukhrul; Hriiyio Mao S/o Adani of Mao Gate; Imnatoshi S/o Tsungshimak of Ungma and Imnasashi S/o late Temsusangba of Mangmetong.
Recovered items from cadres included 7.65mm pistol – 4 nos with 21 live rounds and 4 magazines; 1 9mm pistol with 1 magazine and 8 live rounds; 4 nos mobile phones, 106 nos of Spasmo Proxyvon capsules, cash Rs. 3,350; 4 nos ATM Cards, 1 Driving Licence, 1 LPG Card, 1 Motorcycle, 1 Alto Car, 1 file with papers.
AR on Khensa village incident: According to PRO Assam Rifles, on June 3 at around 5:30 p.m., 31 Assam Rifles received information that few armed cadres while carrying out illegal activities were detained by some youth from Khensa.
Based on this, a task force of 31 AR was launched immediately, which on arrival found Khensa student council members had detained 5 NSCN (I-M) cadres and 2 suspected NSCN (K) cadres at Khensa Students Library. PRO said agitated crowd had also gathered outside the library and were demanding that cadres be handed over to them.
Immediately, PRO said two columns of 31 AR, along with the police teams, blocked all the entry exit routes and another column established a close cordon around the library. On negotiation with youth leaders and the village council chairman, the cadres were handed over to AR personnel, who apprehended the cadres and seized the arms. The cadres and suspects were handed over to Police.
