Care and Support Centre (CSC) unit of Chavara Home conducted a half day programme for people living HIV at its premises June 21 with the participation of about 40 PLHIVs.
Speaking at the programme, Dimapur ART center medical officer Dr. Hotoka, who was the resource person, emphasized on the importance of prophylaxis prior to the opportunistic infections and regular medical checkups. He said ART medicine was not a miracle to cure them of HIV but reminded to continue with adherence till death. He advised the PLHIVs to think of 20 to 30 years of their future ahead by regularly taking ART medicines in order to lead healthy and productive lives.
The facilitator said those infected with HIV could also live as long as any other non-infected person by consistently following timely proper treatment. The doctor cautioned that negligence to adhere to treatments, various life threatening infections can cause their premature death as the immunity falls.
Further, he pointed out that positive attitude, determination, faith in the treatment, proper understandings of the treatment etc were essential to ensure long life.
Besides clarifying queries from the audience, he also administered check-up some clients during the programme.
