In a show of solidarity, supporters and well wishers of former minister and MLA Imkong L Imchen from 28 Koridang A/C was given a rousing welcome and a grand reception at Alichen, some 20 km away from Mokokchung.
Imkong L Imchen was returning to his constituency since his exclusion from state cabinet under T.R. Zeliang’s leadership.
After the reception, hundreds of supporters accompanied Imchen to his private residence in Mokokchung where a brief meeting was held.
Later after the meeting, supporters of Imchen once again expressed dismay with the way in which the former minister was unceremoniously dropped from the cabinet.
Former Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president Imchatoba Imchen who was also present at the press briefing said that the people were “saddened” to see the former minister being excluded from the cabinet. He said termed the exclusion as “illogical and uncalled for” and questioned the wisdom of NPF Central party leadership for the decision.
Imchatoba also reminded that Imchen was the architect of NPF in Mokokchung district and added that he was still a tall leader of the Aos.
The others who spoke at the press briefing also questioned as to why the former minister was being treated in such a way when he could establish a strong NPF party base in Mokokchung district which was earlier considered a Congress bastion. They further questioned the NPF central leaders if Imchen committed any anti-party activities.
The supporters further reposed their faith on the NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu hoping that his earlier promise of a cabinet reshuffle would be implemented soon and that the former minister be inducted as cabinet minister once again.
Earlier in the meeting, a number of people spoke and almost all of them assured support to the MLA and said they would stand by the MLA. Meanwhile, the supporters from the Koridang A/C also said they still had faith with the NPF Mokokchung division in their effort to work out an arrangement and added that they were waiting the outcome of talks with the NPC central leaders.
